Impact Windows & Doors: Yay or Nay?
It is not the most wonderful time of the year, but the most dreadful. Every year Floridians are faced with hurricane season, which begins June 1st and ends November 30th. Florida typically sees a peak in the months of August and September. Year after year, Floridians are told to prepare for hurricane seasons with essentials such as water, batteries, flashlights, canned food, fan, and the list goes on. Among the list, home protection is so important.
There are many alternatives on how we can protect our home such as boarding up, hurricane shutters and impact windows. Should you invest in hurricane proof windows and doors? Is it worth it? The answer is yes!  As a realtor, one advice I give my clients is to invest in hurricane protection! While hurricane impact windows and doors are more costly in comparison to accordion shutters, in the long run it is more cost effective & installing impact doors and windows have several benefits tied to them.
Having a professional install impact protection can increase the value of your home. For the seller this means an excellent return on investment and for the buyer that takes one item of their list.

Additional benefits include:
  • One-time installation
    • Unlike hurricane accordion shutters, impact glass windows require a one-time installation. During hurricane season there are several hurricanes that take place so therefore putting up accordions several times a year takes much time and effort.
  • Added protection
    • Extra protection during a hurricane is of utmost importance. Think about the flying debris during hurricane activity and burglar protection.
  • Noise reduction
    • If you live within proximity of train tracks, chances are you will be hearing the sound trains. Impact windows and doors will create more of a soundproof environment for you and your family.
  • Improved energy efficiency
    • Impact windows help keep the temperature in your home at bay bringing your electricity bill down. A total winner!
As we near the end of hurricane season, some companies are offering discounts on impact window and door installation. Take advantage of this opportunity! These are just a few reasons why you should invest in hurricane impact windows and help keep you and your family prepared and safe!
